i'll take squeaking over that fake reverb they used in the Lynch movie.

It's strange how oddly low quality the new one's moment is though, they even added the literal bass boost sound

The previous film had a really cool delay and layered effect whenever they used the Voice. Kinda weird if it’s not there anymore in part 2.

Woooow talk about a downgrade, that was a cool effect. Much better than the bass boost wimpy s i l e n c e

I mean in terms of influence, I'd say George is comparable (lightly) to Tolkien; ASOIF's dark fantasy style has dominated fantasy for the last decade, and I don't think it's stopping.

Oh definitely, man wrote one of the greatest fantasy settings around. I may gravitate more to Tolkien (especially with how the series went ;-; but GRRM is up there)

    Why’s that?

    You ever seen the joke?

It goes something like this, usually accompanied with the Gigachad template XD

GRRM: Lol everyone is morally grey and there's no heroes or inherent goodness, pessimistic.(Which isn't being fair to GRRM but it's part of the meme)

Tolkien: The inherent goodness of man, inevitably triumphs over evil, heroic.

Conspiracy theory time:  George’s original plans for ASoIaF’s story entailed themes which are no longer allowed to have any place in his modern worldview.

He came up with this story before the internet, and his last entry was 2011. Very different times. And I’m sure that, whether he’d admit it or not, his beliefs and flexibility as a writer have been influenced by the changes in our culture.

I mean, the man demonizes half the country for voting Trump… but his main protagonist is literally a border patrol guard who kills a bunch of foreign invaders who are trying to get past The Wall. XD Something tells me he might regret that choice.

Reminds me of the joke comparison between him and Tolkien. XD

Y’all were fans of Vermintide, weren’t you? Just read an interview where an Obsidian dev said it was their main inspiration for the melee combat in Avowed. Specifically the weightiness of the swings and impacts.

Vermintide 1 has the real weighty combat. While the sequel feels more like attacking through tofu but the combat is much smoother.

    Take your pick XD

I really like the short stories in Robot Dreams. Haven't been able to get into Foundation, though. I'm several chapters in and don't really know what's happening. Granted I'm not always listening with 100% attention.

I sorta blanked out after you asked about Asimov and didn't really read over this lmao

The first Foundation book is definitely the hardest read of the series. It jumps around a lot in the timeframe. The first book takes place over several hundred years if memory serves, only by the second and third books does it start slowing down. The forth and fifth are entirely within the same generation.

Also, completely ignore the books not written by Isaac Asimov that take place after Foundation and Earth. The prequel novel, Prelude to Foundation is pretty good as it's entirely fleshing out the final years of stability in the Galactic Empire, alongside showing the books most important character; Hari Seldon's story.

Have any of you read Isaac Asimov? I started listening to some of the audio books after I listened to Elon Musk's biography (lol). He is a big fan of Asimov and credits him for inspiring him.

Isaac Asimov is my favorite science fiction author. His Foundation novels (particularly the original three) are amazing. He was forced into writing sequels like thirty years after making the original, and the quality isn't quite the same. But Foundation and Earth, which was both the last he made, and the second to last in the series, was excellent. Too bad he died before finishing the final book.

I also highly recommend his short book, The End of Eternity. It can be read as a self contained story, but it ties in with with his Spacer, Robot, and Foundation books real heavily. Plus is an all around great time travel story.
