  1. He usually reviews games. I don't always agree with him but he seems to be an honest reviewer at least, because a lot of critics heaped praise on this turd.
  2. Erik Kain hated the new True Detective season. Just in case you were wondering if it gets any better. It's really terrible. I don't understand where all these bad writers came from and why people are handing them fistfuls of cash.
  3. I doubt the clip is meant to represent actual use of the Voice. It's meant to show he has a complete upper hand by controlling the Spice. But I'd have to go back to the specific moment in the book to be sure.
  4. i'll take squeaking over that fake reverb they used in the Lynch movie.
  5. There are definitely those who think his work is miSogyNisT. Especially after seeing the reaction to D & D's rendering of Dani's story, he may be having second thoughts about his original plans if it really was his idea for her to go homicidal maniac.
  6. His real problem, like most of these leftie entertainment types, is the idea they need to have "a platform." Instead of preaching they should just focus on writing good stories and entertaining people.
  7. The series founder is basically making fun of the story in social media, though he had a couple years that were real stinkers so I don't know how many stones he gets to throw.
  8. You'll be unsurprised to learn that the internet thinks any criticism of the season is miSogyNy.
  9. I would like to convey a little about how bad this new season of True Detective is. There are 6 episodes- we're 3 episodes in to this somehow dull-as-shit ordeal. The 3rd episode starts with a ten-minute sequence inside a Native American birthing center. The only tie to the main story is that one of the boring, samey, "hard-bitten female cops" is present for some reason they never explain. That's it. Just scenes of Native American women with one of them giving birth in a hot tub. The show then cuts to a scene of a search party. Pickup trucks, motorcycles, loud men shouting, the sleazy male cop leading them. Jodie Foster's "hard-bitten female cop" asks where he got all the hillbillies. Get it, get it? Life-affirming Native women supporting each other. Cut to reckless, clueless white men out wildin'. Later on, this same "hillbilly" crew starts a fight in a hospital (no explanation why they're there) and one of them can be heard saying "who you callin redneck!" I'm so glad the Hollywood writers went on strike to preserve quality, totally not AI-generated writing like this.
  10. If it's any consolation, I think the heterosexual female players got shafted. The only halfway normal romance is Gale's, and his personal story is like a huge romance red flag wrapped in a red bow. I won't say more because spoilers.
  11. Karlach is really sweet but is a bit... eager. It wasn't working for me because I was trying to do a Dark Urge character. It didn't feel right that someone that upbeat and positive would just go along with it.
  12. I watched ep 1 and 2 of the new True Detective season, set in Alaska with Jodie Foster as lead. It's got a strong horror movie setup and vibe but is surprisingly dull. I think the characters aren't engaging. There's nothing like the chemistry of Rust and Marty from season 1.
  13. She's a half elf. Karlach is a tiefling. So I guess you'd say SH is the closest to human, being half human. Lae'zel is awesome, but kind of scary.
  14. Probably. Pathfinder did them quite well, too, and the Panam romance in Cyberpunk is awesome. It raises the stakes for everything and allows you to define the PC a bit.
  15. If I'm honest, the romances have really fallen flat for me, and that affects how much I enjoy the character story. As an adventure and exploration RPG it's top notch but they went wild with the "everyone wants to fuck the PC" thing. It makes it feel not earned and kind of mini-gamey. I mean, Halsin is the most egregious example which really puts a damper on my third act since you can't even get with him until then. I won't say more because spoilers. It's not a huge deal, I'm still playing, it just saps some motivation for act 3. I have hopes for this male drow with Shadowheart. I think someone who grew up in a culture mired in evil and backstabbing can relate to her backstory pretty well.
  16. Have any of you read Isaac Asimov? I started listening to some of the audio books after I listened to Elon Musk's biography (lol). He is a big fan of Asimov and credits him for inspiring him. I really like the short stories in Robot Dreams. Haven't been able to get into Foundation, though. I'm several chapters in and don't really know what's happening. Granted I'm not always listening with 100% attention.
  17. Yes there is very little gatekeeping in terms of difficulty spikes. You can definitely fuck up your day easily, and a lot of the side content is hidden.
  18. The areas are pretty big. I rushed it a bit at first and paid the price. I blundered into the goblin camp at level 3 and Underdark at level 4 and paid a pretty high price for both. I will tell you one way you can possibly get a wizard hat in act 1. It's a minor spoiler so read at your risk.
  19. I think the first wizard hat you see will probably be in act 2, in the Shadow Lands. There are a couple circlets in act 1 but like I said, magical gear is pretty paltry until act 2 when it gets a bit better.
  20. LOL, there is a severe lack of magical gear in act 1. A few staves but hardly any robes and none worth mentioning. You should have found Emerald Grove by now, though? That's the starter town. There is a goblin merchant who has some nice gear also, and a halfling merchant further in the goblin camp. One thing that is explained nowhere that I wish I knew earlier... you can trade with anyone you meet. There are symbols on the lower left of the dialogue interface and one of them is Trade. Most NPCs don't have much, but there's one in particular who joins your camp if you rescue him in the goblin camp. As long as you don't take his shady deal (that offers a nice buff but not that great)... he ends up being a permanent camp merchant. He has a really good ring and renewing stock of gold and nice scrolls.
  21. I get to act 2 and start to get bored with a certain character. The farthest I've made it is midway into act 3 though I can't really say how far in I am.
  22. I tried watching that "Emil's just fine" video and felt my brain cells leaking out of my head so moved on. What a shill. With my BG3 kick, I decided to go back to an old classic and listen to some Drizzt audio books. R.A. Salvatore has just recently come out with a new trilogy and they were all in my Everard account so I started in on them and... In the day and age of dark fantasy and A Song of Ice and Fire, they're entertaining but seem a bit juvenile. It's also weird that an author so obviously uncomfortable with writing this stuff should tackle books about the darkest and sexiest race in Faerun. Nothing can kill a ladyboner faster than one of Drizzt's monologues about morality. I like his father Zaknafein better- he just wants to kill priestesses and fuck all the other bitches- but there again, he's made into a killjoy school kid more often than not. Anyway, with drow on my mind I decided to make a Seldarine drow male. I was enjoying my hulking wood elf paladin/bard, but this guy... Barry White music starts anytime he's on the screen. I made him a cleric of Selune which should make for good angst with Shadowheart, and the drow racial spells mesh very nicely with a Light cleric. He has some pretty impressive AoE damage. The drow also get the best dialogue lines.
