That’s what I assume too. I just consider it an asspull even in the best case scenario. Saying that loads of their top minds and leadership also got blown up only makes it comically more-so.

The more baffling question is why they would land on dirigibles as a development, given the RL history of those. I'm sure the only reason the show has one is to appeal to Fallout 4 fanbase.

You guys probably have heard of this Anita Sarkeesian Inc. company- I hadn't heard of them at all.

She’s said to be head of its engineering team. The Brotherhood ain’t that big, so I’d assume that meant she and the people who are maintaining it also played major part of its construction.

But the more important question is whether or not it’s believable that they could do it again after losing so much of their top minds and leadership. I don’t even think it’s believable they could do it again at all, considering that Prywen was made by repurposed Enclave tech scavenged from the ruined mobile crawler base.

I assumed they left a lot of infrastructure back in the Capital Wasteland, but it's all speculation I guess.

Nah. I just spoil tagged my post because it’s long. XD

Building another airship wouldn’t require Maxson’s involvement, but I already have to suspend my disbelief to buy that they could build a second one at all. It gets way worse if we’re also told that the original got destroyed along with most of their top scribes and the chief engineer who worked on it.

Does what's-her-name ever say that she designed the Prydwen? I only recall she says that she keeps it repaired and flying.

Speculations on the Fallout show because I am a self-hating obsessive no matter how much I try to deny it. XD

The trailer shows Walton’s character (the ghoul) as a prewar Vault-Tec TV salesman. My guess is that this landed him a spot in Vault 12 under Bakersfield, whose dwellers all got killed or ghoulified by a radiation leak. Many would long later become NCR citizens. Guessing this is why he will have a soft spot for the protagonist girl. He’ll relate with a fellow vault dweller.

There is a place called "Shady Sands" in the trailer, but it looks nothing like Shady Sands from the game, so either the NCR have significantly developed the city with prewar building construction techniques, or there happens to have been a prewar city that had the same name. The place looks like it has been nuked, so if it’s meant to be the former, then @BigBossBalrog’s fears might be reality. Either the Lonesome Road "nuke everyone" ending is canon and Shady Sands got hit, or a different unrelated nuke got dropped on them by someone else. Hopefully not the BoS though because that would violate their ideology something fierce.

There is a clip of NCR soldiers in ragtag uniforms fighting the BoS in what is apparently the heart of L.A., which is something that was far beyond the realm of possibility during the timeline of New Vegas. So I guess we’re meant to believe that these last fourteen years have been very unkind to them (which would make sense if some of their cities and supply lines did indeed get nuked). I’d hazard a guess that they didn’t win in New Vegas, but the fact they’re still around means the Legion probably didn’t either.

The airship suggests that Maxson’s Brotherhood survived Fallout 4 and have built a second one-of-a-kind airship and made a second transcontinental journey to help their Brothers in California. The fact that they apparently breached L.A. suggests that the region’s power balance has regressed back to pre-Fallout 2, as the combined East and West BoS would’ve still just been a gnat on the NCR’s ass in the time of New Vegas.

Are we spoiler tagging stuff from the trailer?

They also show Walton's character running with a girl in his arms. I got Last of Us vibes.

The Prydwen blueprints are probably around, so it wouldn't require Maxson's involvement.

It’s very grindy lmao. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone except people who have a bullshit job xD or people ok with grinding.

Tbh I’m really good at that, thanks to oblivion lol but it does help that the main story is good and is pretty lengthy.

You need to get playing Cyberpunk 2077 already. XD

Trailer was actually really good. I loved the Mister Handy  (I'm simply trying to harvest your organs!"

Pretty good- I am cautiously optimistic.

@Celan I’ve still got Cyberpunk on the brain. XD

CDPR said that they’re in the early stages of a sequel, "Project Orion". Would you prefer it to continue V’s story or begin with a new PC?

I feel like it would be easy to reset V to "level 1" by having him succeed at finding a cure but have it weaken him and remove his combat cyberware like in the NUSA ending.

Though personally, I like V’s ending so much that I’d be happy to leave it ambiguous and just make a new character.

I would probably prefer a new PC, but haven't thought about it much.

Which is probably a good idea if he wants to age up some of the younger actors. Though it might be hard to get around Paul and adult Alia’s actors being the same age. XD

I only worry that Warner Bros will try to move forward without Denis, as they won’t want the brand’s momentum to get killed off by a long break between sequels. Hope I’m wrong.

That would be stupid of them. Only Denis can do this. BTW, I found out he is from Becancour, which is where my Quebecois ancestors came from. *preen

They are probably going to make Alia age quickly due to the Water of Life dip she takes in 2. That's my guess.

You guys need to hurry up and watch the 2nd movie so i can discuss it. XD

  8. Apparently Denis Villeneuve has also been developing a screenplay for the Arthur C. Clarke space exploration story Rendezvous with Rama. The screen writer (who also wrote Dune Pt 1 and Killers of the Flower Moon) teased it.

    https://www.cbr.com/rendezvous-with-rama-dune-director-denis-villeneuve-development/

This may be what he's talking about when he says he's going to take a break and do something else before filming Dune 3.

So fucking stupid. There single player only game was THE best selling game last year, and there most recent live service offering was one of the biggest failures of the last ten years. WTF are these execs smoking?

As we've discussed in the past, the "service" model is infecting all kinds of industries. Pretty soon you're going to have to sign up for a subscription to use your toothbrush. Why, it's execs with their Powerpoints making revenue projections. They always think they'll beat the curve.

The entire planet is a randomly generated desert, filled with radiant quests ("Another sandcrawler needs your help!". The sand is SIXTEEN times more detailed then any other. You can join all the houses, because they have separate quests lines. There's a companion whose an AI: a wise-cracking, sarcastic one voiced by Stephen Russell who shouldn't be around because of the Jihad, but Bethesda cares more about having "fun" then lore consistency. The theme of the story is becoming sandworm Jesus, because that's a literary theme now.

    Wormborn!

What would the drawbacks be? I’m not even totally clear on this in the book, to be honest.

Addiction, though you could add other physical effects for game purposes. Your resistance would be affected by your race, with Fremen obviously more resistant. Even they experience hallucinations and ecstasy from the Water of Life.

  12. I remember when CD Projekt Red teased a new IP, I was hoping that it was Dune. Not that I'm unhappy we got Cyberpunk 2077, but that would have been so awesome- imagine ornithopter battles, roleplaying either an Atreides or Fremen character, etc. Any other studio would probably just fuck it up, though.

Even the new ones struggle with 5-6.

My favorite scene from the book’s first half was one of those that didn’t make the cut. XD

    Which one is that?

We wouldn't be nerds if we didn't get passionate about completely irrelevant things. @TheCzarsHussar I apologize for my harsh tone. You are entitled to be in love with Kyle Machlachlan's perfectly feathered hair. XD

I myself am not entirely sold on Chalamet and Zendaya, particularly together, but they had good moments in 2. Mostly when neither were talking. XD

My only strong opinions with the miniseries is it's, in my opinion, stupid design. I never commented on the quality of it's writing or acting.

Fine, I tried to save you the effort of posting dozens of pics. XD

By "goofy" I meant things like the voice boxes, but the film had a pretty much impossible job to do adapting that material in 2-3 hours.

  15. 3 minutes ago, TheCzarsHussar said:

The 84 movie is also kinda one of my favorite movies, of course I'm passionate about it. XD

    We've just got different tastes.

I care about is the world, so I'm motivated by what is a good adaptation vs. bad.

Denis Villeneuve >                    Sci Fi Channel >                                                                                         Lynch

Of course, he was limited by the era and runtime.

  16. 8 minutes ago, TheCzarsHussar said:

I'm used to the regal, uniformed 84 Shaddam I suppose XD

I've no idea how well he preforms, never seen the miniseries. The retarded costume design and cheapness always threw me off.

Ah, that's why you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.

Besides the fact that I didn't mean costume design (which I don't care about), I also don't feel the need to bring up the 84 movie every time Dune is discussed. Move on, dude.

  17. 4 minutes ago, TheCzarsHussar said:

I love how we're both stupidly hateful of the opposite movie. I dislike the new one's power ranger fights and costume design, alongside some of the actors. While you (and to an extent Balrog) hate everything to do with the 84 film.

At least I do like the new one, despite all my complaints

I find it goofy. The Sci Fi Channel series were much better.

  18. 5 minutes ago, TheCzarsHussar said:

Say whatever you'd like about the old hairstyle. The new Paul is a twerp when compared to the old, so skinny a strong Arrakeen breeze could sweep him away into the deep desert

I have no idea why the internet knows this, but Timothee Chalamet weighs 154 pounds and Kyle Machlachlan weighs 160 pounds. Kyle does have 2 inches on him in height.

You just have a weird thing for 80s hair, apparently.

  19. 3 hours ago, The Good Doctor said:

Maybe I’m misremembering but doesn’t using the Voice directly relate to one’s force of personality? It takes decades to master yet Paul’s abilities grow exponentially the more he takes on his role as Mahdi.

Either way, the Fremen don’t only accept him because he fulfills religious signs. He still has to prove himself as both a warrior and a leader before most take him seriously. The jihad happened because Paul inhabited the role so well that he drove the Fremen into a religious frenzy. It wasn’t part of the BG’s plan for the Kwisatz Haderach, so I don’t think it’s accurate to attribute Paul’s cult of personality solely to the machinations of others.

He's accessing ancestral memory the more he comes into contact with spice, which in Fremen culture is everywhere. But granted, he does become a good Fremen. He's been trained as a Bene Gesserit so he has the mind-body control they possess.  In the books he was also trained as a mentat.

He also sees the future, which allows him to predict fights to some extent.

Wasn’t it Grima Wormtongue? XD He is honestly an awesome actor. My favorite role of his was in Deadwood.

Sting played Feyd Rautha in the Lynch movie. Brad Dourif played Piter de Vries.

I liked what DV did with the Harkonnens. He even gave them an in-world reason why they're so creepy.
