  1. I finished the series. It's... very Bethesda.

    + Great production values

+ Cooper and Lucy are both great characters and had an excellent arc. So did Dogmeat. XD

+ Zany, humorous, as gory as Fallout should be. Had some good moments. I loved the DJ, for instance.

    - The main story sucks.

    - Precise on the smallest details, fast and loose with the big ones. Come on guys.

    - The cultish aspects of the Brotherhood were dumb but I expect it's a case of this one chapter?

    - Vault Tec's manager vault is in New Vegas??

    - The romance with Maximus and Lucy... no. She can do better.

@Celan I know we’re both fans of the Ghoul, but what do you think of Lucy and Maximus so far?

For my money, I thought Lucy was a decent enough character. Had a good arc, a well-defined personality, and I like that she had to face and overcome some legitimate struggles along the way.

I wanted to like Maximus. But he ended up being one of my least favorite characters. Just not much redeemable about him.

About the same. I think Lucy is a good protagonist and has a pretty cool "player character" arc. Maximus' storyline is my least favorite also. The weird cultish stuff is annoying and he just takes odd psychopathic turns without seeming like a true wastelander. The characterization is off.

  3. Emil is saying on Twitter that FNV is still canon, so it must be that the sign that says Shady Sands "fell" in 2277 means it metaphorically, or it was an error in the show. Maybe they meant 2287 which would put it shortly after FNV and before the show. But yeah, it seems the NCR is no more, at least as an organized entity. It makes Chief Hanlon a true prophet.

I'm on episode 3. You guys weren't kidding about the yodeling. XD

There getting new creation club stuff, but there's apparently "other" new content too

Mod breaking is what Bethesda does these days.

Minor episode 4 spoilers. And new ghoul lore.

Funny, the near-feral ghoul they meet is startlingly similar to a character that I wrote for the RP but never got to the point of including. Even his role in the story is somewhat similar.

They’ve retconned ghouls again. Not a fan. Now apparently they all go feral and are constantly needing to take radiation drugs in order to stave off the process of losing their minds. Only ghouls with lots of money to afford them (like Goggins) can remain normal, which is pretty contradictory to all the downtrodden ghouls we see in the games. Seems a pointless thing to introduce just to invent artificial new stakes for our ghoul protagonist.

Do they establish that it’s all ghouls? The interpretation I have seen is that Goggins’ ghoul is an addict and just thinks he needs drugs to remain non-feral.

  5. The Fallout subreddits seem to think

the show is Bethesda invalidating New Vegas and establishing the BoS as “the” faction. They are up in arms about it. I might sympathize but most of them see the BoS as “fash” so their opinion is invalidated

    XD

I thought it was cute that Lucy establishes her SPECIAL scores at the beginning.

  6. I watched one episode, it's quite entertaining with lots of callbacks to the games but not over the top.

If House ending and BoS Fallout 4 ending are canon, I feel pretty proud of myself for getting it right. XD

I thought the cultish aspects of this BoS group were interesting. Is that a callback to Fallout 1/2?

It doesn't take itself too seriously which I think is a good thing.

For what it’s worth, the last image on Amazon shows them in normal desk lamps and house fixtures. But I haven’t bought or used any so no promises.

Agreed. Banning something for "inefficiency" is absurd. As if we shouldn’t be able to make that decision on our own. I’m sure it was treated as a big win by Congress.

Oh yeah, they crow about it "saving consumers money." I'm now spending more on light bulbs than I have in my fucking life put together.

Might have found a loophole. Rough service bulbs within a certain wattage range can still be sold in the US. Here is an Amazon link.

Oddly, Mandala doesn’t sell them on their own website. Though they do have a few other options for incandescents.

    Might be worth checking out.

What throws me off is that they say "appliance" bulbs. I knew this was a loophole but are these going to explode in my Target lamp?

This whole business is so absurd.

Commies gonna do what Commies gonna do.

    How many do you need?

However many until I get my MBA and won't have to read another book or until a Republican gets elected and overturns this farce, whichever comes first.

I'm going to order some from a dodgy website. Apparently you can still get them if they have certain lumens and you can also order colored bulbs, so I'm going to read by green light. The hue will remind me how much I hate these meddling bastards.

Apparently Three Body actually had pretty disappointing viewership; which is weird because I saw alot of social media buzz XD Maybe people were just that traumatized about GOT.

It still did better than Witcher s3, but that's not saying much. XD

I'm not surprised it didn't get a lot of love. It's too cerebral for blockbuster appeal, doesn't have any of the humor or pop culture draw of Stranger Things, and the characters are pretty flat. The only character who's mildly appealing doesn't stick around for long.

I have zero attachment to the series and don't plan to read the books. Some of the main features of the antagonists just don't make sense to me and I hear that characterization is even worse in the books.
