  1. I think I heard of something similar: A historian was hired and the only question he got was if a battle standard would be carried in the front or back of an infantry formation. His response was that they were holding a cavalry standard. And that was it. They only hired him so they could say a historian had been part of the production. Really speaks to the superficial nature of such productions. If you're gonna pay someone, might as well use their expertise.
  2. The show really made Kaer Morhen (which we all know is supposed to be somewhat hidden in the northernmost mountains) is just a two day ride from anywhere on the continent.
  3. Probably. We're never given any sense of scale in the show. There's never any prominent maps showing us locations kinda like GoT did with their intro. I think it could have been a great thing to have Geralt and Ciri bond over on the road, which would have been a good time to pick herbs. I'm still surprised that no one at any point in production, from early sketches (I assume they do concept art like everyone else) and on, never pointed out that the armors look silly and unrealistic. It's not that hard to look up historical armors from medieval Europe. Or anywhere else if they wanted inspiration for more unique elements. It's literally one Google search away.
  4. Traveled for months? Felt like days, weeks at mot. Feels like everyone (and not just mages with their portals) got access to fast travel. I wished they could have added some scenes where he teaches her herbalism and how to brew oils. It would have doubled as a bonding moment and as a world building one to show how witchers work. Instead they just add a scene where Ciri acts as bait for a monster that Geralt kills with one good stab of a wooden stake. They were certainly interchangeable. Though they barely appeared so I don't really care. Though I agree their interchangeability would have made it better if they had been cut down to brief cameos in other characters' stories. I had hoped Nilfgaard would speak German or something. At least they got their black armors now. She's a northern goddess? With all the fast travel and no care given to geography I had assumed they traveled far south. The architecture gave me more a feeling of southern Spain under Muslim rule type of vibe. Though I agree there were quite a bit of Hindu influence. While you can certainly take elements from a southern culture and incorporate it into a northern one in your fantasy setting (Egyptian styled mummification the Nords use in Skyrim come to mind) it should be made to fit in with the rest of the culture. That's just embarrassing. I must also say that the stark contrast between having white and black actors just mix together feels like an obvious reference to US racist history and modern day politics. You only have it like that today because of forced migration and generations of segregation. Basically everywhere else in the world, ethnic lines aren't so clear and instead follow a gradient.
  5. Geralt and Ciri were good. Though I felt the part where she confesses to seeing him like a father was somewhat unearned. It was like they skipped a lot interaction between the two and decided to still have the payoff without the buildup. Would also have preferred if they had added some kind of green screen dummies or something for Cavil to hit. Geralt swinging his sword around feels so weightless a lot of the time. Kings can certainly be drunk assholes, though I feel they should at least put on a better veil to hide it. Kings are often selected by birth and little else, so you're basically throwing the die on whether you end up with a spoiled brat or a wise man, with the odds being in favor of the former. Still, kings would generally put on a mask of being proper to hide it. Witchers I had wished for to be more melancholic. They're dying out and the world is leaving them further and further behind, yet they still trudge on out of a mixed sense of duty and habit. How much would it have cost to hire a Polish historian and perhaps a culture expert? Regarding the timeline thing, I found it a bit facepalm-worthy to have Dandelion rave and insult a character that is obviously being a stand-in for the critics of the mixed timeline thing from season 1. That tells me the writers got their own heads a bit too far up their own asses.
  6. Recently watched season two of the Witcher. Really liked the first episode. The rest was really... weird. I've only played the games 2 and 3, but so much feels off. From the North (a bigoted backwater few outsiders would care about) having the ethnic makeup of a US city to the Scoia'tael not being a thing at all. Not to mention nearly all characters feel a bit flimsy, like they are less characters in their own right and more like puppets of the writers.
  7. Huh. I never actually pictured them having such clothes, but thinking on it now, it makes sense.
  8. That looks pretty good actually. Though without the context I'd have assumed it was Baldur and Rebec. Yornar and Minna never had fancy fur trimmed clothes.
  9. Probably because we got a more mellow culture I guess. Bombastic and loud commercials are (at least in my opinion and everyone I know) obnoxious.
  10. I will admit I'm not that familiar with the Master Chief helmet, and it annoys me that the details change between the games, so feel free to tell me if something is off.
  11. As much as I'd like to charge for my art, it wouldn't feel right for you here. So if you want anything, just tell what you want, perhaps with an already existing perk or such as a base reference. No promises on when I'll get it done though.
  12. I wonder what happened to the show runners that caused it. I kinda hope their carriers took a steep downturn after the GoT debacle.
  13. Not really sure how that would work with selling the arcane feeling. Though I guess using presentation and have arcane glyphs appear on screen as to give an indication of when the timing windows appear could work.
  14. That's an interesting idea. Though it could also lead to a situation where Alduin is not the big villain and more of a possible villain. Kinda like Caesar in New Vegas. I think I'd love to have Alduin give a philosophical reasoning for why he does what he does. Granted, it would require some pretty good writers to pull that off.
  15. Find some way to fix up the combat so it's not a lot wailing at hit points. I agree with the bringing back of the Dragon Cult. Alduin trying to rebuild his power-base would give a clear reason for why he's not going around destroying everything. Maybe give Alduin a "I don't want to be the bad guy" reason for why he wants to conquer instead of destroying. That the gods are cruel and use him to wipe the board clean whenever they are bored with the current world. Could even add a nice twist with both sides of the civil war courting Alduin in some vain attempt at what they think to be dragon mercenaries.
  16. I sort of remembered her when I read it. Just something in my mind that went "Didn't she marry Gregory?" At first I thought she was just a small cameo. It wasn't till after you pointed out that you wanted to introduce her that I started to attribute a larger importance to her appearance.
  17. It may be a trope, but I feel it's one we could use some more of in these fucking times. Had forgotten about who Amelia was and had to look it up. I'm curious why a focus on her since she died. I get the feeling she's either not really dead, or there was foul play around her death.
  18. We need more cute children getting people to think better thoughts in general in stories.
  19. I'm still kinda interested in the Fallout rp. Though I wont deny that interest is waning for every day that it stands still.
