  1. its kinda true to an extent, like when i played souls games i wasnt into the mmo scene much at all, and tho the pvp side of it keeps me somewhat in shape so to speak, but i used to live and breath ds3 and bloodborne, and was much better then. Probably what is needed.

I know people say this all the time, but it feels really accurate. Malenia comes across as a boss that Fromsoft started to create for Sekiro, didn’t have time to implement, and then repurposed for Elden Ring.

I agree in a sense, because of how she moves, but the lore team lol, grr Martin included, they did an excellent job incorporating her into elden ring

To be honest, I didn’t know the Godskin duo was considered an especially tough fight until I went online and read what people had to say after the fact. They didn’t give me nearly as much trouble as most the bosses who came after them.

Elden Beast is probably my least favorite boss fight in the game, particularly since he tarnishes what would’ve been a solid fight with Radagon otherwise, and the ending in general. Agreed he’s badly designed.

As for Malenia, I understand why you consider her unfair. I just don’t feel that way myself or really want to make an argument out of it. I would agree if she wasn’t optional, or if she was legitimately impossible to beat without using summons or cheesing.

Or overleveling which is what most people do who beat her alone/change their build, but these are all legitimate ways to beat her, just not traditionally the good try hard way which we all love.

Honestly I’m just looking to validate my own way and move on lol.

My soul problem with Malenia when I'm not getting salty as hell with her is the ridiculous tracking if Waterfowl. It literally requires either a sequence of perfect inputs to dodge it point blank or constantly fight her with range from mid point. It's fully possible to dodge her waterfowl when practically touching her when she starts it up. But the required skill gain is unreasonable for the majority of people

I perfectly dodged it one time the other day, just once. And I was so flabbergasted by this that she proceeded to fuck me in all my holes and then some after lol

I noticed too that if you absolutely fuck her and get her health low fast, she turns up the aggression tenfold to get her health back

  5. I like the spectacle of that fight. Its beautiful and sticks with you.... I hated the fight itself though but, maybe thats Fromsoft's version of Radahn that they decided to keep since they nerfed og Radahn and more people could solo him. And both were soloable but not for most people.

So, its the same idea but not as obvious because they dont give you ten thousand unlimited summons for her like they did Radahn.

And hey at least I can say I solo'd him, Balrog :P And Maliketh for me was easy.

But yea I cant with my builds finish her alone.

  6. I hope some of that rambling made sense lol but imo for most people beating her involved some form of cheese, either leveling high as hell or abusing some mechanic to out cheese the fight itself, which a lot of elden rings interactions are that way. How many of yall summon for example the bs double boss fights designed for you to want to use a summon.

  7. I argue that its unfair because she is at a difficulty height that isnt due to just her attack patterns or stats etc, but because she ignores the set rules of the entire game and you dont have the tools to reasonably beat her alone, and they dont tell you that.

Alone as in no summons. And lets be honest, without the internet telling you hey use this or that, how many more people would've continued to struggle past the 200 attempts mark lol.

The waterfowl ability is something we all know is extremely hard to get around but yes we all know what we gotta do to avoid dying to it. And yet even so you'll still die because while you have to commit to an action, I.E. You attack and see her jump up for the waterfowl and cant run away from it because you're still in swing mode while she's already primed to rip your asshole apart lmao, meanwhile she gets hit in a stun or swings and the game input reads your action and she can stop what she's doing and counter it or again, prime that asshole ripping waterfowl.

Is it possible for people to beat her without specific builds yes, its possible also to beat this game one handed and blindfolded in a speedrun (not exaggerating lol) but that doesnt mean its not unfair. And this is the first boss I'd say truly is and Ive struggled on bosses plenty before.

Elden Beast is annoying and a bitch and imo badly designed but not unfair. It doesnt have established rules of the game being broken. Malenia does tho and thats why I think its not really a challenge the way the rest of the game is. You dont leave that fight imo better at the game than you were before because everything you learned about how to fight prior isn't true with fighting her. In other words for most people it teaches them one thing and one thing only, how to cheese this game when necessary lmao.

What I learned from that fight was to accept my limitations and move on or become stagnant like the queen of rot herself who literally is about to suffer a loss, again, and decides to cheese that fight herself just like she did radahn for the win lol.

So she's both the symbol of rot and also the symbol of overcoming it which is her duality presented as she herself learned from the blind swordsman to try and overcome what she is... a cheeselord lol. She abandons her pride to overcome the obstacle.... damn, FromSoft yall are good. Fuck you lol

  8. Lmfao well to be fair, if it wasnt hard as fuck and gatekeeped a little, it wouldnt be as unique or keep my attention as much. Difficulty elitism is what they made money off of originally, and Elden Rings sold better than any other one of their games. I'd argue its not the absurd difficulty spikes and that they sold better in spite of broken difficulty, however they do give you tools to get around that, even if it goes against tradition which they seem to be trying to break anyway... in fact now that i think about it their lore even shows this. Malenia herself is the goddess of rot/stagnation and the god of rot and decay was originally defeated by the blind swordsman who represents a flowing river. Big themes there for japan in recent years of old traditionalism that got them bombed in WW2, and their adaptive culture that has them prospering today.

I digress tho. Despite the sour taste in my mouth I do think its good that they do not listen to player feedback, overall.... and I also dont think its true that they dont listen to player feedback at all, just not in the core aspects of the game. And funnily enough super dangerous levels that suck ass to get through is indeed a core aspect of the game lol.

However so is commitment to action and malenia flies in the face of that so....... yea fuck her lol.

  9. I had her down to a quarter of her health the other day, second phase, and im closing in for the kill. Only for this bitch after I kept my distance, and tried to bait the waterfowl.... to jump in the air and waterfowl as soon as she got close.

It didnt kill me by some miracle, but she got half her health back nearly, I had no potions left, aaaand to top it off, she put scarlet rot on me after with one hit and i died while rolling

Thats when I said fuck this Im mimic tearing lol

I think the fact she goes against the design is what makes her so unique  If I wanted to fight another boss like Artorias, I'd do that. But Malenia, for better or worse, is uniquely unfair. And since she's the optional superboss, in the optional secret area, I do not mind.

It is true that you have to go waaaaaaaaay out of your way to find and kill her, and they made sure you knew this place and this area would be bullshit and piss you off.

  11. Imo if you need to switch to a very specific build type to beat a boss in a souls game it defeats the purpose of the game and goes against the spirit of it. I know not everyone had to do this but many did, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Before I just had to git gud. This tho man it just felt like rng ruled the fight.

And there is some delicious irony of cheesing Malenia after lorewise she cheesed Radahn lol

  12. So, I used my mimic again and I feel like this is yes, their hardest boss but also their least balanced and one of their most unfair bosses. I say one of because that damn elden beast is up there lol and that fight feels like they forgot to let us use Torrent.

So, souls brothers, should I be ashamed lol
